Yoonsuck's dissertation focused on self-organizing maps with spiking neurons, and in particular how perceptual grouping could be achieved through synchronization in such maps. He is a co-author of the book "Computational Maps in the Visual Cortex" and a co-editor of the book "Lateral Interactions in the Cortex: Structure and Function." After graduating he took on a job at the CS Department at the Texas A&M University, where he works on computational modeling of the brain, thalamocortical basis of analogy and cortical integration, and autonomous semantics in sensorimotor agents.
