complex function, a complete spectral representation would usually require
evaluating both the real part and the imaginary part of the transform, or,
alternatively, the amplitude spectrum and the phase spectrum. Though, for the
sake of clarity, we limit the present analysis to even symmetric inhibitory
schemata which lead to even symmetric RFs and which allow us to deal with
amplitude spectra only.
